H1 Transfer

I am in US now on H1 and my current VISA is valid till Dec 2006. I want transfer my H1, if I transfer, do I need to go for stamping again or my VISA is still valid?. I have to go to India during Jan end. I am from Bangalore, for stamping do I need to go chennai only or can I any where else in India, chennai there are not appointment available at all. Indian citizen and US resident can look for any of the consulate in India and some dates are available in Feb. Is it possible? Thanks

Legally, you can travel to the US on your old stamping which is valid till 2006, show your new petition for the co.B and get I 94 based on the new petition. But if you do choose to go for stamping, as a returning worker you will qualify for emergency appointments and eligible to attend any of the 4 consulates in India.
