H4 Visa for 2 yr old kid

Hi All,

Can anyone guide me the process for H4 Visa for my2 yr old kid and he is currently in India.
Myself and my spouse are on H-1B and from different employers though.
We are planning to initiate H4 for our kid from anyone of our employers(either from my employer or from my spouse company)
I heard that either father or mother is required to present in India to get H4 for kid.
Is that true? Please clarify and your inputs are highly appreciated.

Does your kid already have a passport? I do not think there is necessity of parents being present in order to get a H4. Further, it can be got by dropping the relevant documents at the drop box location..
