Taking same appointment slot for wife and husband working in h1b

Have question on appointment slot
Can I take same appointment slot for my wife and I . Both are on H1b and working for different employers.

I know we have to fill separate DS160 but when I called USTravelDocs desk, they are saying we need to book the appointment also as separate but some of my friends and colleagues mentioned they went together in similar situation

Please advice.
