  • Current F1 Student in OPT -> H1B

    I have a friend who recently graduated law school with a Master's degree. She is currently in OPT until December of this year. The problem is, she will not be able to take/pass the bar until after this years H1B deadline which I believe is in April. She already has a law office that will sponsor her H1B it's just the timing is off.

    Is there a way she can take her bar this year/pass it and then file for next years H1B and stay in the country? Thanks in advance for any advice you guys have.

    Enroll in a college - preferably a community college for cost reasons.

    You are allowed to take 1 credit semester your first and last semester.

      Trying to work out that timeline. So December, OPT ends, then new semester of school in what January? So January, February, March. The semester would end before she could apply for the H1B in April correct?

        You get summers off.

        So, you can be a student during the summer and not take any classes.

        Fall starts in September but H1B October.

        Winter semesters also go until end of April.

          I'm a little confused. Can you walk me through what you are talking about?
