Hello,
I am currently on H1 and working in US. My 6th year H1 will complete in June 2015 so I will be moving into H4 as dependant. I am planning to go to India to get my H4 since I hear it is much faster than to apply for a change of status in US. Can I submit DS 160 form and book an appointment at the US Consulate ( Chennai ) while I am still in US , so that as soon as I go to India I can appear for the visa interview.Or is there any mandate that I should be in India during the application process of the new Visa type. I am a bit confused since I know it is riskier to travel outside US if I had filed a change of status in US, but not sure if the DS 160 application process is totally independant and does not track any travel records. Please help.
