I entered USA with maiden name on H1B, now got new passport with married name.
How to change married name on SSN, I-797 and I-94 ??

I got married in India in Feb, 2012 and my employer applied for H1-B in Apr 2012.
I came to USA with my old name (maiden name ) on passport, visa, I-797 in Feb 2013.
I got a new Passport with married name from Indian Consulate in NY based on my Indian marriage certificate. I went to SSN office and showed them new and old passport along with my married certificate to change name on SSN but they refused to issue SSN with married name.
Letter given by SSN office says
"
We cannot issue you a Social Security Card at this time because :
Your marriage document indicates that your name change event occurred prior to your arrival in the United States. You must therefore first update your name change with the Department of Homeland Security.
"
Please let me know if someone has gone through this process.
