H1B Receipt Number

Hi All, Have tried to find answer, but did not get

My employer has filed H1B and got it this year. Now the problem is, they will not give me receipt number or get it stamped until unless they need to send me onsite. There are many cases in my company where employee got H1B visa, but they never got chance and visa got expired.

1. What is time period in which we need to get it stamped before it expires?
2. Is there any way to get receipt number?
