ITIN needed for H4 renewal?

Hi,

My wife came here in late 2012. We haven't yet gotten her ITIN though, and I have been filing my taxes as single. We have applied for her ITIN now. Can we go to India for a H4 stamping renewal in the meantime or do we have to wait for her ITIN to come?

ITIN is not required for the H4 visa stamping.
On a related note, why would you file your tax as single when you have dependents living in U.S with you? Your taxation will reduce when you have dependents. Basically you have paid more in tax than it needed to be.
