Can I travel to India from US via London with expired H1B Visa Stamping?

Hi All,

I have my H1B stamped in my passport which expired on Sept 10 2015. I have my Visa extended (till 2018) and have valid i797 doc's for which I have no stamping in my passport. I am planning to travel to India during Jan 2016. Can I travel via London without valid stamping? I heard from my friends that without valid stamping the only option to travel is via Middle East. Is that true? Please help me on this.

Through UK you will need a direct airside transit Visa (DATV). Same with Germany. Switzerland, Amsterdam or middle east does not require a transit visa.
