H1 extension and passport expiry

Hi,

My H1 visa is ending on sept 2016 and so is my passport, but I have stayed only 1.5 years in the US on this visa which means I have another 4.5 years on it (based on the rules people can stay for 6 years in the US on the visa).

I am not sure when is the right time to get the visa and passport extended and how. Also, if I can change jobs before september 2016 or if that will add to the complications.

I am currently in India but will be moving to the US in Jan'16 on H1.

Passport can be renewed up to 1 year before expiry.

Your employer (same or new) can file an extension petition at any time to claim the remainder time.
