Income Tax Federal Return forms for H-4 visa

Hi,
We've an appt scheduled for my wife's H-4 visa in Feb'06. Do we need to submit my Federal Tax returns for all the years I'm on my H-1 in US? I lost my last couple of years documents and I'm already in India. Can you pls suggest how important it is to submit these tax documents for approval of the H-4 visa?

If you do not have any mandatory documenty or its copy, then write a letter to the consulate which your wife can carry with her explaining the reasons for not having the same and what substitute you are providing in its place.
