H1 Expired / Unused

Hi I have got H1 stamping on April 2013. Due to project allocations and personal emergencies, I haven't used my H1 and it got expired by September 2015. Is there any way that this can be renewed? If yes, Could you please provide the details under which category this can be done? I have read through forums and noticed this can be done via cap exemption. but I am not very sure about what is the documents/process Involved. If you could provide the info in detail, this will be really grateful to approach the relevant team in our organization.

Your current employer who filed your previous H1B petition or any new employer can file a new H1B petition using the CAP from the previous H1B petition approval and request an immediate start date. All that you need is a copy of your previous H1B approval notice to prove that you are already CAP counted.
