when does the six-year maximum period for my H1B starts?

My H1B petition got approved in 2014 (for 3 years) and visa got stamped in Aug 2015. I am looking to travel to USA in Dec 2015. My Passport shows visa expiration date as Aug 2017.
Does this means I Have lost ~1 year of my Visa and can stay in USA for about 2 years only.
OR
My 3 years will start from the day I enter in USA?

Six years clock starts from the day you enter the first time on H1b.
