H1B approved not stamped

My H1B was approved in the year 2015 and I-797 is valid upto May 2018. However, the H1B visa is not stamped since I am yet to get client letter from my employer. Is there a duration limit (before my petition expiry date of May 2018) within which I need to get my Visa stamped?

No. You can get the visa stamped anytime before the petition expiry date as long as the job still exist at that time at the same work location.
