I am currently on a H1 b visa. I used some of the initial years on a research H1B job and am applying for a residency.
At the completion of 6 years, I will need 2 years for completing my residency. My program is concerned about this and want to know if I will be able to convert to a J1 visa without any problem at the end of my term if I do not get a H1B extension?
Also, would I be able to convert to a J1 visa whilst in the USA, if they advise me to do this now (I am of Indian nationality).
Please advise.
