H4 Renewal with old visa stamping

Hi,
My current H4 (I 94) is valid till OCT 2016 and I have my visa stamped till then. My husband H1b was renewed ,but mine(H4) was not done that time. Can i travel to mexico and come back to US with his new 797(valid till July 2018) and using my current VISA (valid till OCT 2016). Will that extend my I 94 (renew my H4) till July 2018 ?

They used to do that earlier, but chances of I-94 gettign renewed merely by leaving and re entering with new I797 are low. Why not file a I539?
