VFS dropbox processing time for H1B case- Chennai Consulate

Hi All,

I had taken up my H1B visa inteview in the 1st week of Jan. I was asked to provide additonal documentation under sec 221(g) and was asked to utilize the VFS drop-box facility. I did so in the 3rd week of Jan. After that, I sent an e-mail to the Chennai Consulate asking them about the timeline. I got a reply saying "10 to 12 working days". After 12 working days, I called up the Consulate and asked them if I could know the status of my application. I was told that my application in under processing and that they could not give me any details of how long it would take. I was asked to wait until I got the passport back from the Consulate! I am still waiting (It is the last week of Feb now -more than a month).

When I initially called up VFS, the first thing I got to know was that, if you sent the docs visa VFS drop-box [for sec 221 (g) cases], you cannot track the passport delivery online. You will have to call VFS everyday and enquire if they have received the passport from the Consulate.

I have held multiple visas before this (F-1, B1/B2, H1B, etc.) I have never had problems with visa interviews before. I guess the Consulate is getting tougher on visa applicants and demanding more documents for genuinity reasons. I just hope that the processing gets done fast. I have sent the required information that the Consulate has asked for.

Yes, even my process is similar to yours. Nearly 1month by today thru VFS Dropbox. And i had consulted VFS Office once in two weeks back. And i had got the same information. And i never contacted the US Consulate chennai yet. What should we do.

Can we make a call or mail to the VFS Office (regional customer care)?

Can we make a call to US Consulate, chennai in this regard?

Hi Sri,

As you know even i am waiting since 37 days and I had even mailed chennai consulate requesting for the status. I got a respone from them that my case is under review with the officer and to wait until the processing gets completed. I hope they are busy with the heavy crowd in consulate due to over scheduling in VFS for the month of Jan and Feb, but still not so sure.

Let's hope that the processing gets fastened atleast by March first week.

Got Visa thru VFS drop box

Hi friends,

I know like me there must be lot of people waiting for the response thru dropbox.After my pathetic experice with Chennai Visa consulate, my wife was asked to put all required docs in VFS Dropbox( 221g case). After 16 days of long wait she got her Visa. I have experinced that VFS site updates the status of ur passport, till yesterday they were showing they have received the Visa and going to courier it. Also they will give u all the track number etc and the delivery date once they receive the passport.
All the best to those who are still waiting for the response. I can understand the pain but unfortunately there is no other option other then wait and watch.

I know Chennai consulate is really really slow...& famous for rude behaviour.

Has anybody heard anything after sending the addl docs thro VFS dropbox. It is 1.5 months since I sent mine??????

VFS Drop Box processing time for L1 B

Hi ,

Even I also dropped my documents to VFS on third week of feb on same 221g. I know few people who are waiting for more than a month .Can anyone of you update this forum once you get the reply from Counsulate. This would be really helpful for others to estimate the time that is been taken for this processing.

I am also facing the similar problem. i dropped the docs on 27th jan after getting 221g and yet to hear from the chennai consulate.

How are you doing these days, and for me by today 41days is over VFS thru Dropbox and there is no status update, i am checking the status through vfs site sometimes.

Did you received any communication, any of you from the US Consulate

No reply from chennai consulate yet..its already 6 weeks over in my case, after submitting the documents over dropbox.

We need to wait and watch. Let us hope fore the best.

Have any of you heard anything from chennai consulate? I am not sure how they can have the passport for so long? It is 2 months for me!!!!!!!!!

When I contacted them they said if it you need to travel for some reason, the passport alone can be sent back.

vfs drop box issue

Hi,

I went for stamping on March1st Chennai but got 221(g) (End Client's Project details )with VFS Drop Box option ticked. My Question is, Can I appear in person to the consulate despite the ticked the VFS Drop Box option or is it mandatory to drop the required docs only to VFS Drop box ?

Any advise on this issue would help me alot.
