Hi - Sorry to post an urgent thread

I have realized my passport is expiring in 15 days(2nd week of May 2016), I have valid H-1B Visa stamped till 2017.
Can I stay in USA while passport renew in process ?
what happens if the passport is expired and am still in usa ?

any pointers are appreciated

Surprising that your I94 is beyond passport expiry. Nonetheless recommended to file passport renewal in tatkaal. You can continue to stay till your I94 expiry.

You can apply under tatkal & get the passport issued the same day. Write an email to the tatkal department for approval. And usually reply back by next day & shall instruct you with next steps.

Thanks Raghvi and Mousan. Got reply from my company attorneys as well, eventually I-94 expiry and 797 expiry would govern work authorization and stay in USA, so I will be good till 2017 on the stay.

Sure will be working to reissue the passport in tatkal. Thanks
