Hi all,
I came to India for visa stamping. After coming here I found out hand written passports are no longer valid. The day I found outthis, that day I also found out that my H1-B petition has been approved. In India wait times right now for H1B interview is really high. So I emailed the Kolkata US Consulate where I will be taking my interview, if I could schedule my appointment, since I didn't want to wait for my new passport to come. This is the response I got.
Dear Arpita,
Yes you can schedule your appointment with your current handwritten passport.
However, when you receive your new machine readable passport, please ensure that you amend your DS-160/complete a new DS-160 which must feature the new passport details. Please present the new DS-160 which features your new passport details at the VAC (Jasmine Towers) when you visit them to submit your biometrics. You can also update your profile in www.ustraveldocs.com/in with your new passport details.
Sincerely,
I have scheduled my appointment for July 1st and July 7th.
Has anyone been in this situation? Please let me know.
