Travel on OPT while H1B is pending on RFE - Urgent!!

Hey Folks,

I am on OPT 17 month extension right now and I have applied for H1B which got an RFE. I need to travel to India and want to see what my options are.

I heard it is OK to travel and return before responding to RFE since the change of status won't take into effect. Is this correct?

Or is it better to withdraw the H1B petition at this stage?

Please advise. Thanks!
