H1B layoff after returning from Disability Leave - looking for urgent help

After returning from Disability leave my I was put on bench for couple of weeks and then given a termination notice (2 week notice). I do not want to go back to India by force. I am still undergoing treatment for my illness - Can i show this as a reason to request my employer to extend my stay to little bit longer? I don't need the pay but want to stay little longer? Once week is already over and I still couldn't find a new employer. Did anyone go through a similar situation?

I do not want to change my status to F1 or B1 to extend my stay
