L1 to H1 transfer and travel in between

Hi

I have a dilemma infront of me.

I am currently on a valid L1B petition but have an expired L1B visa.
My company is preparing to apply for my H1B because I am nearing my 5 year limit on L1B.
I already have made my travel plans to India in May to get L1 visa restamped.

However, I was just made aware that I cannot travel in May and get my L1B re-stamped if I have applied for change of status to get H1B.

What are my options here if I want to travel and come-back in May as well as not jeopardise my H1B petition? Also more details/pointers on this topic will be useful.

Any help will be highly appreciated.
