H1B cap-exempt and cap-subject at the same time

My question is,
can the H1B cap-exempt and cap-subject petitions be filed at the same time?

My current employer is in industry field, and they have already filed a H1B petition for me, which is cap-subject.
However,
I received an offer from a college, the start date is this September. And they are going to file H1B petition for me, which is cap-exempt obviously.

Because I decide to go to the college,
can both H1B petitions be filed at the same time?
