Signing an apartment lease while waiting for H1B approval notice

Hi everybody,

My apartment lease is expiring in May and while I'm still waiting to know if my H1B application was selected I have to find a new place. My boyfriend is moving with me and he will stay in the apartment even if I have to leave the country because my H1B was not selected. Am I allowed to sign the lease and stay on the lease until it expires even if I don't live in the US anymore? Or will it have some impact on my immigration status (maybe making it look like I stayed illegally)?

It will have no effect on your immigration issues. Best of luck on your H visa application. I assume you are on F visa right now?
