Passport renewal after scheduling visa interview

I want to schedule my Visa appointment with my old passport and then apply for renewal of the passport. For that, I'll need to make changes in the DS-160 form. Is it possible to do this?

I want to schedule first as I may not get slots for the interview. I want to renew because it is expiring soon.

As the DS-160 form will be filled with the old passport so should I fill a new DS-160 form and carry both or I don't need to fill a new form but just inform the officer at the center?
