  • Drop box stamping when previous visa expired over 365 days

    Hi,

I was scheduling my VISA appointment at US embassy at Mumbai, India – during the process, system asked few questions to check if I am eligible for “drop box” under Interview Waiver Program.

--One of the question that system asked was this – “Did your previous H-1B visa (temporary occupation, temporary worker or trainee) expire WITHIN the last 12 months?” Answer to this question is YES since my previous VISA stamp expired on 27 September 2016. So system told me not to schedule the appointment and asked me to use “drop box” instead

--But I will be arriving in India on Oct 9th – so I will be mailing my passport and documents for VISA stamping though dropbox AFTER Oct 9th – at that time the answer to above question becomes NO.

My question is will/can they deny my drop box request and ask me to come in person if I go with drop box option. The confusion is only because appointment site right now says you are qualified for drop box based on answer I supplied (which are true in today's date though)

Any help is appreciated if anyone has ran into such situation.

You should have answered NO, because the Ds 160 should be filled as of day of interview/ date of Dropbox.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

I am in a similar situation. Can you please tell me how you went about your visa stamping?
