  • Should the I-94 on I-797A be returned when travelling internationally ?

    Hi,

The I-797A approval notices for my H-1B and my wife's H-4 visa extensions have the I-94 forms attached at the bottom. Do we need to return those I-94s while exiting the USA? I am aware that the paper I-94 are no longer provided by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the port of entry. But I was curious about the I-94 on I-797A.

There is no exit check for the US, so no need to return anything at the time of exit.
Just an opinion; Not legal advice.

Thanks for the reply scientist2016. I have one more doubt. There was no exit check even when the paper I-94 were issued (before 2013). But we used to return the paper I-94 to the airlines personnel at that time. I was wondering if we need to do that same with I-94 on I-797A.

Yes, the airline personnel used to take it from your passport, but we were not giving it away viz., if you did not have an I94 paper copy the airlines would not ask for it. Now you do not have a paper copy system altogether. So nothing to give.

NO. but after landing in USA make sure correct dates are reflecting in I94 online website. In 2015 wrong date was reflecting against mine. Called them & got it corrected.
