I’m a physician from India working in the US for the last 7 years. I recently finished my training (J1 visa) and applied for J1 waiver through IGA option. I got DoS approval on Nov. 28, 2017. I received a receipt from USCIS on Dec. 4, 2017 saying my I-612 J1 waiver application was received. My lawyers applied for H1b petition (change of status) on Jan. 18, 2017 and Today I got an update from USCIS saying my H1b visa (premium processing) is approved. But my I-612 is still pending. What does it mean? Is it because my waiver and H1b applications are sent to different visa centers? Can I travel to India in this situation, when H1b is approved but I-612 is pending? I-612 approval is important to me since there’s a 2-year home country residence rule attached to J1 as we all know.
