i94 & H1B Visa expired. H1 Transfer applied - Can I start working?

Hi,

My i94 & H1B visa expired in Nov, 2017. My employer filed for an extension only in Dec, 2017.
Now I am applying for a H1 Transfer with a new employer in Feb, 2018.
Given that the H1 Transfer is applied, can i start working with the new client while the case is pending with USCIS.

Any of your inputs will really be helpful to me now...

If it is already expired.Did they apply h1 on Nov befor expiry or after expiry?

If after expiry u already in out of status.In whcih basis u will apply h1 transfer,when you dont ahve valid I-94
