Additional income on H1B

Hi,
I have been working on H1B for the last 2 years.
I understand that I can work for only 1 employer on 1 H1B, however can I take up an alternate source of income (e.g. online surverys) where I am issued a 1099 at the end of the year versus a W2 and I am not an employee but an independent contractor?

You cannot work for any remunaration other than what is approved.

As a general guideline, any work you do for money is considered as depriving earnings of some local person who otherwise would have earned it.

Exceptions are stock market trades.
