I am new to this forum. Found quite informative. I seek for suggestions from experienced members of this forum in the following matter.
I was in J1 and it will be H1B from July (petition approved as per the tracking service). My J1 visa stamp was over in July 2004. With this new H1B paper I intend to travel to India for a vacation in November. During that period I wish to get married. While planning for this trip, I found there is a long queue in visa interview dates in Indian consulate and thus decided to schedule an appointment for November (upto October is already almost full). To do so, I have followed the instructions (depositing money in HDFC bank etc and got the receipt number) and while scheduling it, I found I need to fill-up DS-156 now. Here is my QUESTION. I wish to travel back with my wife and wish to appear in the visa interview together (i.e., after marriage). If I fill DS-156, I need to mentioned myself as single (logically at this date), but when I really appear for the interview, my marital status 'ld change. And the DS-156, I'ld carry to the consulate 'ld not be the same as I'm filling now. So, what is the approprite way to handle this situation?
I am also thinking of a second option: Instead of appearing together for the interview, If I appear for the interview (before marriage) in single status and say my visa gets approved. Afterwards (within a month) if I get married and if my wife appear for the interview with the marriage certificate, does it affect anything, means my visa got approved as a single person and then I get married and my wife appears for the interview!!
I am bit confused, what is the best way to handle this situation. I know many people go through this stage and thus I am hopping for a GOOD Suggestion for you people.
