H1B overseas travel while undergoing extension

I have a valid H1b permit, stamped passport and i94 till March 2019. My employer is currently in process of filing my H1b extension, all my period spent is only with my present client. I want to travel overseas in Jan 2019 unsure if my extension will be completed till then or whether i will have a new i797 at that time. I wanted to know considering my extension is underway can I travel outside of US and be back based on my current i94 and stamped passport which is valid till March 2019.
