Senior members please advice(Regarding I 797)

hello all
I heard that after the interview they retain your I 797. Is it a genera trend or they will return it along with your passport? I will be needing I 797 for my wie's visa stamping. I am going now for my visa stamping and my wife will be going for herH4 visa interview later on.

Will they return I 797 or not?

Please do let me know. i am slightly panicked.
