Is it essential to have an SSN to work (along with other non-immigration visa documents).

Can a SSN application be used temporarily to start work?

---- SSN may not be required to start work. You apply for SSN after joining the company. However, you need the SSN to get paid as the employer has to report to IRS about your Federal and State tax deductions
