Hi:
In India people still use the terms, 'stamp', 'stamping' and 're-stamping' with respect to obtaining a visa. These terms are out of date. Visas are no longer stamped into a passport, but are instead stuck into your passport. The visa is made of special paper. I believe the use of the 'stamp' finished more than ten years ago.
Best just to say you want a visa or a new visa. If you are a H or L applicant and you think you want a 're-stamping' what you should be thinking is 'renewal' instead.
I hope this helps to reduce confusion.
