h1 petition validity - reg

Hi
I got my H1 petition approved hardcopy recently.
it says its valid from Oct 2006 to March 2008 (Just 1.5 yrs)!!
when i stamped my visa last week, visa validity also shows the
same duration(20 Oct 2006 to March 2008).
Is something wrong with the petition/visa validity? or is it ok to have 1.5 yrs validity?
when i searched on the web its saying H1 is valid for 6 yrs.
but why its just 1.5 yrs for me?
any pointers highly appreciated.
