  • 221g - additional docs - chennai consulate

I attended the h1b stamping interview in chennai consulate on nov22nd, 2006. The officer wanted some additional documents to be submitted thru vfs dropbox. I submitted them on nov24th 2006 along with my passport. VFS said that it might take a minimum(maximum time was not specified) of 5 to 10 days. But I havent received any updates after 10 working days.

I read in in some forums that it will take 4-6 weeks for 221g administrative processing. My case is not administrative processing, but it is additional documents required.

I am a returning worker. I am working in USA, came back on vacation and got struck up here for visa stamping.

    1. What is the normal time take for such cases?

    2. Is there any way to speed up the process?

    3. If my employer or lawyer speak with INS, will it help?

    Thanks in advance,

    1. What is the normal time take for such cases?

---- There is no time limit. You have to wait.

    2. Is there any way to speed up the process?

---- If that can be done, everyone will jump into it. Sorry, there is no such thing as at present

    3. If my employer or lawyer speak with INS, will it help?

---- NO, they cannot speak as the decision is at the sole discretion of the US Consulate. The response to Q2 applies here

---- Please wait patiently. The US Consulate will contact you some day with an update
