Visa stamping and Passport expire date

Can someone please help me?

My wife and son have an Appointment at US consulate Toronto on Jan 25th with me for there H4 visa stamping for 7th year extension. (Sixth year visa on passport will expire on April 30th 2007)

Their Passport will expire on October 11th 2007, It is necessary to renew before stamping on January 25th 2007?

it is generally recommended that passport be valid for atleast 6 months from the visa stamp date.
