H1B transfer,leave of absence

I have my current H1 B from company A and it is going to be closed soon. I have to stay until the closing time in order to get severance package and its going to take another 3 months. I have filed another H1B from company B and received the receipt of notice (Lin#) from USCIS. I have to work for company B immediately. Is it legal to get leave of absence from company A for 2-3 months and start working for company B? By doing so I can get my severance package from company A. I appreciate your help in advance.

You can start working immediately for company B.

Regarding severance, that is not an immigration question. It is something between you and your employer.
