L1 to H1

Hi,
I am currently working for Company A on L1B.My husband is working for a different company on H1B. I would like to change jobs now.

If I find a consultant and get him to do a H1B for me before April, I understand that I can get the H1B petition approved, but I can only work starting Oct,07.

Meantime, should I stay with my current company until Oct,07? What happens if I resign my job, and convert from L1 to H4 in the meantime that the H1 petition is being processed? When I get my H4, will my H1 be cancelled automatically?

During any of this process, I do not plan to leave the country.Will there be any complication with stamping?

Simple thing to do is apply for H1 as a status change from L1 to H1. Once you get an approval notice.. resign from current company... whenever (in future) if go out of country, u need to get a VISA stamped in ur passport based on ur H1.
