H1B renewal/transfer or reapplication?

I got H1B and worked for a while and left the job to study abroad. Now I got a new offer from the States. The expiration date of the H1B on my passport is Oct 2007. In this case, what should I do? Simply transfer the existing one and extend the period? Or renew or reapply for the new job?
I would appreciate your kind guidance regarding this.

---- Transfer the existing H1 and that automatically extends the period. However, the period you apply for may not be granted (assuming it is 3 years). The period to be granted will be decided by the USCIS
