Dates of Attendance problem on DS-157

Cannot input my educational institution Dates of Attendance on DS-157 [section 17] online form in format 01-02-1999 to 01-03-2001 , Invalid date time message is displayed .Has the PDF form been secured by US Gov? Or is it my version of adobe acrobat reader which is not allowing the dates to be entered?

Please advice?

follow the format that takes.....date,month,year....
