H1: Changing Visa expiry dates while booking an interview date

Hi All,
I am planning to book for an appointment later this month. But I havent received the docs from my employer. He says its still with the Lawyer and asked me to proceed with the booking. My question is, as I am not sure about the petition expiry date, will I be allowed to provide any arbitrary date for now and Will I be allowed to change the dates later ?
