H1 restamping before the validity ends.

Hi,
My visa stamping is expiring in April 2008. I am making a personal trip to Canada in January 2008. I would like to have my visa re-stamped at that time, so that I can save the hassle when I go back to India by next year end.

Is there a criteria that the stamping cannot be given for such a future date (Appointment in Jan for validity from April)? Is there some restriction on the timeframe before which you can get the visa stamped ? My 797 is valid till 2010.

No there is no set rule as u mentioned. I had my visa extended recently from canada & my I 94 was stil valid ... i got it done with no issues like that.
for eg if my I 94 is expiring in jan i did it in october & got my extension done as per 797.There is nothing like a time frame. Once u go to canada for restamping ur current I94 will be cancelled after interview & new visa will be given as per 797 n then when u enter u.s back ur I94 will have start date accordingly..
I guess there is nothing like that but its good if u keep asking others too about this. cant rely totally on one experience.
