Getting fired while on H1 visa

Hi,

I read on your website that if you are on H1B and get fired it is
better to switch to a B2 or a B4 visa. How long does it take for these visas to come through and how do I go about it. I'm currently on H1-B and fear that I may get fired soon. If I could stay in the US I would rather quit my job , switch to a different visa and look for a new job. Also, if they fire me but still agree to hold my visa till I find a new job, will
I still be out of status?

Please advice. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

It takes 2 to 4 months to get B1/B2 visa. However, as long as you file
the papers, you would be in legal status.

You have to file form I-539, available at

At the time of approval, will I have a choice to decline it if by then
I have an offer from another company that is agreeing to file for my
H1?
