H1B Visa Transfer Advanced Degree Cap

Hi,

I am currently employed full time with Company X and am on H1B since October 1st 2007. I do have an offer from Company Y, which is getting ready to file the paper work for H1B Transfer onto its name.

Now my question is, once I give my resignation with Company X and if they offer me a significant hike in salary, I might stay back with Company X itself and never move to Company Y.

Since, Company Y would have already filed for my transfer by then, would it be too late to continue working for Company X? Can you please advise best possible course if I needed to work with Company X even after my transfer papers have been filed?
