L1 to H1 transfer

Hi,
I am in US on L1 visa till sept-08 , I have got H1B but I have to stamp it. For stamping I am going to India in April end for 10 days.

My employer says that I can continue to work for with my L-1 employer for 1-2 months till he finds me any project here in US.

I need to know following things :
1) When I'll have H1B stamped , On which visa I'll come back to US..H1B ?

2) Is it safe to working with L1 employer , although I would be here on H1B visa ?

3) My wife is also planning to go back but would stay back in India for couple of months and then later join me on H4 visa . Is that ok ? Her L-2 is also valid through sept-08.

---- When you have two Visas stamped on your Passport, at the time of entry with the Immigration Officer at the POE you have to declare your intentions of entering on your L1 or H1. accordingly you will be issue a I-94 that defines your status in the US

2) Is it safe to working with L1 employer , although I would be here on H1B visa ?

---- NO, the I-94 should be for the respective type of Visa

3) My wife is also planning to go back but would stay back in India for couple of months and then later join me on H4 visa . Is that ok ? Her L-2 is also valid through sept-08.

---- If you are H1 in the US, then she can only come to the US on H4
