  • Working on H4

    Hi,

I am planning to get H1 stamped for myself and H4 for my wife. Just wanted to check is there any possibility that my wife can work on H4 Visa. I mean is there some kind of work permit given. I heard from someone that H4 can work after completing 1 yr in US. Not sure how true it is.

    Kindly guide!!!
And thanks for providing the invaluable information and help. This website is just a blessing for people like me.

    Regards

All of my friends wives work on H4 here in the US of course not legally. There are millions of illegal immigrants who live and work freely in the US (these guys dont even have a visa to stay here). Places where she can ask for work are: s/w consulting companies, small travel agencies, indian stores, restaurants, laundry, day care centers, motels, math science tutors...

        PrakashK,
Since you already found out H4 visa holders can work illegally, why post the query in this forum. It is illegal to work on H4 and if somebody does it and if the authority comes to know about the same, then it is curtain to the H4 holder.

          The bigger question is ...

... why did you get your H1B to come to the United States. You could have come here illegally and both of you could have worked without even paying any taxes!

The point herein is as RAMBALAJI very nicely told you, that if you know the answer to your question why even post the question in the first place?

The advice that you will receive from this forum will always be absolutely legal and proper. If you're looking for illegal options, you already know where to go.

Good luck to you and I sincerely hope your spouse does not work on H4 in this country and if it does happen, both of you have to leave the country forever. I am sorry I cannot be more polite here, these are the things that are causing a lot of problems to the country and I am in no way going to support them.

            PrakashK,

Advocating illegal activity is immoral. It is actions such as what you encourage that give guest workers a bad name and reputation. You are not wanted - or needed - here; take your advocacy for illegal activities and go back to your native country where law breaking must be acceptable behavior.

            nitin_hamir,

Please do not participate in or encourage illegal activities such as working on an H-4 visa. You are a guest in the USA; you must abide by its laws or pay the consequences. Unlike what PrakashK says, you may not pick which laws to obey.

I absolutely agree, we should look for legal & proper channel in order to work here... So many genuine people have to suffer due to the illegal immigrants that enter US.

One of my friend who's wife was expecting had to call his mother to US for help with delivery and all...they are just genuine as I know but there visa was rejected bcos US consulate doesn't knows who's genuine and who's in-genuine.. and then people like us have to suffer due to folks who are just crazy to get into US at any cost.

Thanks for your help and suggestions...I find this website highly useful...

                Now another option ...

... is there are some good companies who can file for H1B or even a part time H1B for your spouse. With a part time H1B this she can work legally for up to 20 hours per week.

Alternatively, if she just wants to be active, she can volunteer to help out at the library or your local communities. She won't be paid for this but will surely have a good time.

Good luck to you and your family.
