H4 visa from Mumbai Consulate

Hi,

I am on H1 and plan to marry this december.
Recently there's a new rule that H4 applicant's passport MUST show spouse's (who is PRIMARY applicant) name.

Does it mean that she has to change her middle name and surname in the passport?
Or it is enough to endorse my name in the space provided on the last page of her passport.
How long does this process takes?

It will be appreciable if anybody who has gone thru this process recently can give some tips and suggestions regarding this.

h4 stamping in mumbai

I was wondering the same thing and so i had written direclt to the Visa services in mumbai.this is the reply i got from them.
"Thank you for your mail.
Yes it mentions on the website that you have to get your husband's name enterd in your passport.That is fine with us if the passport office is willing to do that.Generally passport office in Mumbai is changing the passport and issuing a new passport.

Pls let me know if you get more info on this as i am planning to get my visa stamped in mumbai.

H4 Processing at Mumbai

I too wrote to Mumbai consulate and got answere as below:
"Thank you for your mail.
It means that your wife will have to get your name entered in the space provided
in the passport.
Regards,
VFS team."

However, some people are saying that we have to change the wife's name and some
are saying that it is not required only spouse's name endorsement in the wife's passport
is enough.
So, I am still looking for tips/suggestions from people who have actually gone thru this
process. That will be of great help to people like us.

Please let me know if you get some more info in this regard.

asked by the bom consulate..if possible could u list them.
these days the wife has to go for interview with appointment.
