L1 to H1 Transfer

I am on L1B visa with a company A stayed for 4 years 6 months here in USA. Now if I apply fresh H1B visa through company B. Can I stay for another 6 years as I will be in the new H1B visa. Or I have to go out of the country after 1.5 years.

I am on L1B visa with a company A stayed for 4 years 6 months here in USA. Now if I apply fresh H1B visa through company B. Can I stay for another 6 years as I will be in the new H1B visa. Or I have to go out of the country after 1.5 years.

---- Your total stay on L1 and H1 is only for 6 years. Thus today if apply for H1 you will be gracefully given a tenure of 1.5 years. After that you have to go out of the country for at least one year before you apply for the H1 or L1.

---- The only condition you can remain in the country is by applying for a Green Card and this is by having your Labor Certification cleared within the first 6 months and having applied for I-140
